[3.5e] Alternatives to Vancian Casting

I DMed a session for the first time this week, and it all went very smoothly (despite having 6 players, which I worried would be unmanageable).

However, one problem is the casting system. The Wizard and Cleric's spell preparation is cumbersome and delaying the game. I'm also not 100% convinced about them as a concept.

There are a number of alternatives out there, including a psionics translation (http://img.4plebs.org/boards/tg/image/1394/19/1394195167670.pdf) and the Spell Points and Spell Recharge variants in the SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/magic/spellPoints.htm, http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/magic/rechargeMagic.htm).

Does anyone have any other alternatives/any experience with them?
