Elemental Swordsman for 5e?

So my friend and I are all new to DnD and I'm DMing. We tried 4e out a couple weeks ago but the fights took waaaay too long, so we're switching over to 5e. Almost everyone's class and race transfers over to 5e, except for a Human Elemental Swordsman.
Elemental Swordsman was a homebrew class my friend found for 4e. He built his character's back story around that class essentially. Is there any kind of class in 5e that allows a character to add elements to his sword?
