I have been reading X-Men comics for about as long as I can remember and since I've started DMing this year i had an idea to do a DnD Nextcampaign based on the idea of the X-men. The main reason I chose next over 4e (which I am more familiar with) is the fact that there are more roleplay oriented powers for spellcasters which would make for more interesting ways for players to use their powers. The campaign world would be low/no magic at face value however underneath the surface there are groups of people who can use magic or have amazing powers. Depending on what the players want to do they would either be a group of "marked" outcasts with special powers. Or a group of humans who are trying to hunt down the "marked" people.
If they choose to be marked I would have them start off in a dungeon locate in a human city. After they break out and doing a bit of adventuring and gaining some notoriety they would be approached by members of two guilds. One fighting for human/marked unity and the other fighting for marked supremacy. The players would then choose which guild to join and the rest of the adventure would consist of the party doing things to further their guild's goals.
If they choose to be humans they would essentially be royal mercenaries tasked with hunting down marked compounds and wiping them off the face of the planet. Not exactly the nicest option but it could be a fun game.
What do you guys think? does this have potential or am I full of shit? Also, if you have any ideas for improvement of the concept or for the execution of said concept I am all ears.
