Monks and Fighting Initiate Feat

I've recently seen a discussion about Human Variant Monks, taking Fighting Initiate at level 1 to boost their unarmed damage to D8. All of the discussions I've read have failed to mention a glaring RAW problem. Fighting Initiate Fet has a prerequisite of "Martial Weapons Proficiency" Wouldn't that prevent a lvl 1 Monk from taking the Feat? Unless I am missing something? I also understand DMs can choose to ignore the prerequisite.

Edit: My quick reference app, has a typo. It says Martial Weapons. I'll admit to being incorrect, and thank you for being polite about that fact.
