I'm currently running Curse of Strahd. I've read through most of the module, and feel pretty confident that I know the general mechanics of the module: What characters are where, the general stuff happening in the different areas, what the monsters are. However, I always feel unprepared, and generally nervous.
If I had to guess, it's because I feel like I don't know how to roleplay the NPCs very well. I want them to be multi-dimensional and unique, but I don't know if they're perceived that way by my players.
I as a person generally like games like Heroes of the Storm and such that have a very linear, numerical direction, as opposed to things like Minecraft, that are very open. When things are open, I get stuck in my head with "What's the *right* thing to do?" and I know that's not the case with D&D. I know the end-result is everyone having fun, but for me a large part of having fun is excellence in what I'm doing.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? How have you navigated this, if at all?
Almost forgot: I think I've run a total of like... 20 sessions, 9 in this game, and the rest in homebrew or other content. So I know that me being new could be a factor as well.
