So long story short, I’ve been dying to play DnD irl and it’s been tough finding a game. Since I haven’t had the chance to hang out with friends I decided to try DMing instead. I’ve done it online before but not IRL. It sucked.
These are my closest friends and we are lively and goofy often but half of them just didn’t really do……..anything. I would set up story and a scenario and they just stood there, like…not doing a thing. My best friend was great and he would essentially trigger any engagement or otherwise and I would improve some NPCs to help interact with the group and roleplay and he was the only one willing to bite.
I asked for some feedback after the session and the main thing was that I probably talked too much, but I couldn’t help but try to basically say more story or describe what’s happening around them whenever there were so many cricket noises.
Not sure if I want to proceed with the same group tbh. I ended the session as soon as one of the others finally decided to do something and force a combat situation. I don’t know….
It’s odd because I did this with online friends before and aside from people showing up it was soo much better of an experience. Uh any advice? I just starting criticizing myself internally for being a terrible DM.
