What would you hope to see in an ice climate, or a towns wizard society?

My party is going to a brutal ice tundra TODAY. I have built this world on my own, piece by piece, and the party has expressed interest in going to my town in the tundra. It's a brutal week trek through the snow, and I have no clue on where to start. I haven't even been able to begin putting the town together since they have had major developments to their characters during the missions. Anyone have any basic encounter tables or anything like that? Any advice on worldbuilding?
