How to find a good divorce lawyer?
Post Body

I just started the divorce filings/proceedings and I had my first court date yesterday n it was the temporary order hearing.

Long story short, I got Totally railroaded. They awarded my STBX 67% of my net monthly income. She is early 30s, just started going back to school and claimed she can only make approx $500 per month because of this.

My lawyer seemed entirely unprepared and he lawyer spoke quickly, rushed through things, and my lawyer kind of rolled over and just went along with the numbers being thrown out.

I am currently left with around $1k per month to pay all of my bills, and the remainder goes to her.

My lawyer advised this is routine, the temporary hearing just adds up the numbers and does the calculation to determine who gets what. I have my kids 3 days per week every week, she has them 4. Two kids aged 6 and 4.

I looked up what reviews I could find for lawyers before hiring this one, and I noticed he was rated well in a few places. I liked his demeanor when we met, but I have severely lost confidence in him after yesterday. His communication is lacking, but I feel he did a terrible job representing me in court.

If there are any lawyers that are willing to chime in, please tell me how badly I got screwed.

Any one else, Please let me know how to find a good lawyer in my area. There aren't many reviews for them like other businesses. I love in the Wausau, WI / Stevens Point, WI area.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can provide to help get better answers.

Finally: this whole thing really sucks.
