How to have the talk with kids

I need some advice for how to break it to kids that mom and dad are getting a divorce and they will be living in separate houses.

My STBXW and I have three daughters 3,5,8. She has been living with kids at her parent’s (kids’ grandparents) house the last 7 weeks under the pretense of summer vacation at grandparents but at this point they know something is off. I believe my wife has talked to my oldest daughter already and she knows we are getting a divorce. I have not seen the kids much in last 7 weeks which is when our separation began. Wife filed for divorce a couple weeks after we separated. Our initial hearing is in a week to determine temporary orders. The two youngest birthdays are a week after that.

I kind of want to wait until the temporary orders are put in place so we have more details on the where and when of the custody split. I need to get some books on co parenting too. My wife wants to talk about it and break the news to them together but I honestly have no idea how to do this and need education.

Any advice on having the the talk, when and how to do it with little kids, and co parenting resources for newbies is appreciated thank you.
