Not officially divorced yet, separated, but seems to be the most applicable tag... anyways. We've had a couple of discussions since she mentioned that she wanted out. Mostly cordial. She said that, whenever I'm ready, she'd like to remain friends.

My question is, does that ever work? Is it just something people say because they feel like they need to?

She's letting me make the decision of when/if that happens, so that seems like a good thing? We had such a great friendship, I'd hate to lose it, but will it just make things worse for me?
