How to do an effective lone wolf battlemage build?

I’ve been playing lone wolf with a friend we recently got to level 7 and i feel like I’m not doing great. My friend is playing ranged and constantly hitting for ~80 damage per auto before crits meanwhile I am hitting maybe 60 on a good hit. I’ve invested 1 point into each elemental skill for buffs/spells then just been pumping warfare but my damage still feels really lacking. Granted I haven’t found a great staff yet but even with a good one I’d likely barely get near my friends damage. Anyone got any tips?

I will say at the very least I am decently tanky thanks to the armor regen and addition spells.
