Hey Everyone,
I am so glad this sub exists. A little background on me. I am 28 F and I am having my first ever bout with diverticulitis and boy is it a monster. This all started about a month ago. I had terrible pain so I went to an urgent care. They gave me some IV antibiotics and Aug/Clav and sent me to get a CT right away. CT showed diverticulitis pretty high up in my colon. The pain never subsided so when I went for my first appointment with my Gastro, she took one look at me and sent me straight to the ER. The did a repeat CT and ended up admitting me. They put me on IV antibiotics because the antibiotics I was on were not working. I was in for 4 days before being discharged. They sent me home with the same antibiotic that didn't work the first go round. The following week went ok and then I went back to work the next. That week I left twice with abdominal pain. I ended up going back to the ER last Thursday with pain on my RIGHT side. It felt very appendixy so I went just to be sure. The did another CT and appendix was fine. This CT also showed my diverticulitis was still active but improving. This time they sent me home without being admitted and gave me Cipro and Flagyl. Fast forward to this week. I started having severe pain again on my left side. It hurts to breath. I go to my gastro and she send me to the ER where I get ANOTHER CT.. The CT shows the diverticulitis is back in full force so I get admitted again. (Also getting weary of CTs since I have had a tremendous dose of radiation from getting 4 CTs in 3-4 weeks time)
I am sitting here typing this from my hospital bed. They have me on IV antibiotics every 8 hours. There is a lot of talk about surgery. I have uncomplicated diverticulitis. I still haven't had the chance to have a colonoscopy so I feel like they don't have the full picture. I don't want to have surgery but I also feel like if I leave without it, I will be back in a matter of weeks just like last time. What the recovery like from the surgery? How much time did you have to take off of work? Did it help you?
