Hi, I’m Batisat, or Batty to most, and as GL reaches the dreaded chase meta, I’ll like to clear up the air a little regarding this period of time.

What is the Chase Meta

Chase meta is a team of 2 Batteries alongside a chaser, with the ideal team being Layle, Selphie, Cait Sith. There are other teams but this is not what I’m here to discuss.

This meta was brought on by pure necessity due to the high scores forced and high defense, Gilgamesh EX is to blame for this.

It is, however, not the only way to get high score, nor is it “Full Chase or die!”, DPS units with a support while having a friend chase unit is perfectly viable.

Facts

JP had high score requirements. I’m talking 200k score for Gilgamesh, I’m talking 160k score for Deuce.

Score indicated will be for the max rewards (500 gems)

Gilgamesh: 200k Score

Do note that JP had this Gil’s event extended for about a month, meaning Layle’s awakening fit into this time period.

Relm: 145k Score

Leon: 150k Score

Fang: 150k Score

Deuce: 160k Score

After Deuce, JP had awakening wave 8 which gave many people reprieve due to Eiko, which many people had, being awakened and being really good.

Before you freak out about the score though, do remember that as part of the scoring formula, higher HP bosses contribute to higher score as well.

Common Misconsceptions

What chase is: A way to use 3 characters to clear multiple events in a row without pulling.

What chase isn’t: Only use these 3 characters or prepare to never clear an EX.

Gilgamesh

This was the main reason why people had to think of chase to begin with.

As Patient 0, Gil had insanely tight score requirement, notice how every other EX is at least 50k score lower afterwards.

Deuce

I’ll skip ahead to Deuce while still keeping the core themes of relevant units, mostly due to Deuce being the tail end of where chase was still relevant.

• Relm, Deuce, Penelo
• Celes, Rem, Deuce (No friend)
• Ace, Setzer, Deuce
• Deuce, Selphie, Aerith
• Vaan, Selphie, Wakka

You’ll have choices, Layle, Selphie, Cait Sith are not the only options!

Possible Changes/Deviations

Assuming we’re not getting random rushes of awakenings, we’re gonna be behind on awakenings for a while.

For reference, Selphie should have been released after awakening wave 4, we’re currently only on wave 3.

Not to mention our LCs are also way behind, currently only on Krile while JP had Aerith around Selphie's release.

We do also have early EXs, meaning EXs tied to character awakenings might have more time to shine than those tied to events. Of course this is pure speculation at this point.

What does this mean? Layle may come too little too late, and Cecil’s time in the limelight is currently the longest standing due to the lack of Layle to dethrone him.

The devs may also rework armor values, but with my arguments above, I highly doubt it.

If anything this should be called a battery meta more than chase meta.

Closing words

You shouldn't need to save the entire bank to pull for Layle, Selphie,and Cait Sith. Nor are they the only options.

They are certainly good, too good in fact. Which is probably why we're getting delayed awakenings. But that doesn't mean everyone else is useless.

Update 1

27/12/2018: Selphies event dropped and we're already seeing a decrease in score requirements.

From 220k for JP to 180k for GL.

The concerns of the GL community has definitely been heard, and with Ashe's LC being pushed forward and Layle not being in time for Relm, what's next for GL will definitely be interesting.

7/1/2019: Gilgamesh event max score change, from 200k for JP to 120k for GL.

Yeah... Thats a big nerf
