Sup everyone. Those of you having gone through the several WoIs we've seen come and go (and come again forever, hi Ifrit!) have likely noticed that each one of them comes accompanied by two weekly banners, both of which contain a featured unique weapon for one of the characters.
Some of these weapons are niche. Some are underwhelming. Some are actually really worth grabbing purely to have that passive even if you'll be using a 35cp or EX weapon. I thought people might like to have a compiled list of them, so they can plan ahead for future WoIs (like Leviathan incoming soon).
Disclaimer: I don't play JP, and I don't know specific values nor usefulness of these passives and how they interact with the character's kit. I heartily invite discussion in the comments about which ones you think are best or even mandatory. Without further ado, the table:
Summon | Weapon | Character | Passive Effect |
---|---|---|---|
Ifrit | Crimson Edge | Cloud | Dispel effect on ability crit |
Shiva | Caerula Dagger | Rem | BRV attack becomes ice, magic damage |
Ramuh | Ambra Rod | Yuna | BRV attack becomes thunder, small SPD up chance |
Leviathan | Hellblau Gun | Laguna | Party iBRV 20%, small SPD up while HP>50% |
Odin | Noir Calibur | Bartz | Party ATK 10%, small SPD up after mastering ability |
Alexander | Aile Blanc | Hope | Self mBRV 20%, ATK 10% while buffed |
Brothers | Sol Blade | Squall | Self iBRV/mBRV 20% while HP>80% |
Pandemona | Vert Slasher | Zidane | Party mBRV/ATK 10% for 3 turns after debuffing enemy |
Bahamut | Reeler's Edge | Vaan | Self mBRV/ATK 20% for 5 turns after breaking enemy |
Diabolos | Schwarz Lance | Edgar | Party mBRV/ATK 10% while enemy debuffed |
For some thoughts, it looks like these weapons certainly evolved over time. The first WoI weapon, for Cloud, was useful in the Ifrit WoI to remove the Chimera's automatic buffs. It's use is niche in letting you not bring a dispeller to fights normally wanting one, but is largely able to be passed on outside of that.
The second two weapons, for Rem and Yuna, alter their BRV attack to match the summon of the event. This is useful for their WoIs because of the boss's innate weaknesses to the element of the summon you are farming for. Rem's also changes her damage type which can make her slightly more useful on certain content, and Yuna's has the possibility of a small buff occurring. All in all, largely able to be passed up as well in my opinion.
From the fourth onward, we see a shift in the ability provided. Now we start seeing conditional dual stat boosts on every weapon. Some of these are extremely easy to activate such as Bartz and Hope. Others will be active in most conditions, such as Laguna, Squall, and Edgar. Last are those that may or may not be easy depending on the content, including Zidane and Vaan.
The key thing for me is how many high tier units have these stat boosting passives. We see favorites like Squall and Vaan having free bonuses from these passives, and other popular units in Laguna, Zidane, and Edgar also have them. If you're planning on using some of these units, you may want to consider pulling on these banners.
EDIT: Updated table with specific numbers of passives. Some of them are twice as good as the others. This certainly makes Squall and Vaan's look even more impressive than they were. I'm not sure what the value of "Small SPD up" exactly is, but apparently neither is the sheet and SPD is a difficult stat regardless.
