Hey all, I was plodding through reroll #50 or whatever and thinking about all of the topics I've read here in advance and realizing that while I've seen answers and guides about a lot of the more technical aspects about the game, some of the simplest things are still fairly unclear to me along with player opinion on how to get them or use them or what not.
I apologize to the mods in advance if they feel this belongs in the help thread, if it does feel free to remove it. I just hoped that if there was a lot of information requests and many people commenting their suggestions and opinions, this may merit enough discussion for it's own thread.
First off, "currency". By that I mean limited-amount resources that are farmed, stored, and used for a purpose, and usually need some sort of micromanagement. Some of these are fairly obvious but others I have very little clues on:
- Gil: Seems straightforward. Drops from enemies, can be bought (though people say not to do this), used for enhancing/fusing and ??? Where do most people farm this, or is it fairly unimportant to necessitate farming?
- Gems: Used for summoning mainly. According to the wiki, also used to expand inventory slots and buy booster books. Not sure what else. Comes from story, missions, achievements, login bonuses, etc. Once the story is completed, how plentiful is the "daily gem income"? How long does it take to accrue enough for a 2500 pull?
- Tickets: I assume used for summoning on banners one pull at a time, haven't gotten any but the tutorial one yet. Not sure where they come mostly from, nor the optimal way of saving/spending them, opinions welcome. Is there only the one type (apart from the one time tutorial) or are there 4*/5* guaranteed ones etc?
- Link Bells: I have no idea. I think they have something to do with multiplayer? Starts at 5, don't know if this goes up? They come back daily I think? Someone help me out here.
- SP: Used for events or something only? Seems to be based on rank, I don't even have enough to run the 10SP stages at a low rank. Recharges 1 per 3 minutes? Unsure if there's a way to refill on demand, nor the formula for how much you have per rank.
- Cycle Quests: So you can enter one of the eight 10x per day? And use "Cycle Quest Keys" to unlock another for unlimited use for 30 minutes. I know you can buy a key with DP, unsure if there are other ways to get it? How many runs can you do in 30 minutes?
- Dissidia Points: Used to buy either gil or cycle quest keys. Apparently can buy power stones in the future with it. Unsure how to acquire them, I got 100 for a daily I think? Is that the max per day, with 1000 max stockpiled?
- Power Pieces: Used to limit break weapons without needing a duplicate. Obtained by selling 5* weapons, with some other options coming later. Need 4 per level, so 12 for a weapon you only pulled one of.
- Crystals: Used to "upgrade" units in a progression separate from exp. Units unlock new passives (or actives) with each upgrade. Comes in three different tiers. High drops from the Carbuncle event, I think.
- Orbs: Used to fuse into equipment for their "exp" progression. Power for weapons, Guard for armor. Three different tiers as well. You can get them from Carbuncle event going on as well.
- Esper Things: I forgot the name of these circle things, but they're used to bind and I think upgrade your summon levels. Someone please feel free to correct me here, lol.
I think that about covers all the things you need to keep track of and manage, apart from things like generic weapons and material drops and stuff? If I'm missing other important limited type things, please let me know.
The next thing I'm kind of in the dark about right now is "resets". I know there are daily and weekly resets. I am pretty sure the daily reset timer is 3 AM EST (midnight PST), and not sure if it will be affected by DST later in the year. I'm also unsure of if it applies to everything that rolls over "per day". I don't know when the weekly reset is, please inform me. Things that reset:
- Daily Quests: Various things to do with gem/DP/etc rewards. I think once you earn them you can claim them for more than a day, so you don't lose them immediately if you forget to pick up before the reset.
- Cycle Quests: From what I'm reading on the wiki, cycles between 6 colors and then has a day where gil drops instead of crystals.
- Link Bells: I see the notice about them being set to 5, and I think this only happens once per day?
- Weekly 2500 gem 10 1 pull: I know this is limited to once per week, but as mentioned, don't know when it resets. Is it always on the generic banner, and never on the current featured banner?
- Events: Unsure how this works yet, like when the Carbuncle thing will end and the upcoming Squall thing will start, etc. What's the usual duration for these things? Do they ever return, or if you miss out on them are you screwed forever?
- Coop missions: I think these had a limited duration date on them when I looked? Do they expire and then you can't complete them again?
- Anything else? I honestly have no idea what else is "do it or lose it", so if there's anything else time-limited or "X per period" please let me know.
Last (for now, since this is already getting kinda lengthy for basics and requests for help), there's rankups. When you rank up, you get 100 gems, and I think your SP is set to full? Your rank has to do with your total character levels I think, so you will automatically rank up when you reach a level multiple with your units? I'm not sure what else is refreshed when you rank up, or how hard it is to micromanage rankups to not waste what you get for free in this game.
I could double this post in length about the things I've read about weapons/armor/passives and the like, but I think this is enough focus on things that haven't been really covered clearly in other posts. The stuff I listed out here feels like the stuff that is "duh" to people who have been playing a while, but for a new player feels like it's quite unclear.
I appreciate any responses from people able to add information or answer my questions on unknown mechanics. I'm probably grossly overthinking this all, but I'm the type of player who likes to accumulate knowledge beforehand and attempt to avoid mistakes when playing. This was part of the reason I reset my FFBE account a few weeks in; I'd rather play DFFOO without screwing up too badly from the get go lol.
