For a beginner, is it better to use a preset build or create one?

Even though I've heard it's a non-combat CRPG and is more interaction/dialogue oriented, I figured I'd ask if it's better for a beginner (like myself) to use one of the presets for a first time playthrough or experiment with it and go along for whatever that experience entails. Though I imagine the game is likely fine either way since it gives me clear details about what the stat/skill stuff means.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
