or as the band Simple Plan put it in my Christmas List "I want a girl in my bed who knows what to do..."
I hope you liked my Christmasy title. this is not the first Holiday/Christmas post you've seen. Mine however has a twist and a challenge to it. I am completely blind, so I write with four senses instead of five. Let me explain a little. .
Taste: Christmas is a time for hot chocolate, hot apple cider, egg nog, and in some countries and contexts mulled wine. There's the sugar cookies or fruit cake or whatever other treat you associate, but the first one that comes to my mind are candy canes.
Touch: The prickle of ever green pine branches. The familiar feel of the textured ornaments. The brushing up against favourite Christmas sweaters; the perfect snow ball, forming and building snow men and snow forts; or just the feeling of being half frozen because you were under dressed for how cold it's getting.
sound: a constant barrage of Christmas carols (starting as early as November 1), the Nutcracker Suite, jingle bells, a crackling warm fire, the tearing open of wrapping paper, watching old favourite Christmas specials.
scent: peppermint, scented candles in my home are always for autumn and winter, the cold air has a different odour to the warm air, and just the smell of the pine trees. .
For my plots I usually write vanilla with a bit of smut, like what happens after the Hallmark movie ends and the couple finally gets together? of course we don't have to write Christmas themes, I was just feeling in a Holiday spirit, and wanted to see if there was anyone with "holly jolly kink".
Another more personal idea: I as a blind guy have not had a lot of luck meeting women to date and so you start to give me a make over as a friend only for us to fall in love. .
Another story sample: I tap my cane slowly down the snowy slushy street. I can hear up ahead a Salvation Army Santa Claus and I fumble for a bill to give. I hear loud Christmas music from the restaurant a few doors down. I can hear kids playing in the snow in the park across the street. I am on my way to meet my date. We had chatted online and on the phone but now we would meet in person. How would she react to the fact of my blindness? It's one thing to share that with someone, another to witness it in person. I shifted my messenger bag on my shoulder. I stopped to check my GPS again to make sure I was heading in the right direction. I heard a bus go by. She had seemed really straightforward, direct but kind and sarcastic, seemed like our senses of humour would align well. Most of my dates went poorly, with after some talk the date inevitably asking "So what is it really like to be blind?" Then would follow a "third degree interrogation" which would be a cross between a charity case and a psychology case study. How would this one be different? I pondered.
I hope you get the vibe I am going for, a kind of vanilla meets smut. happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.
