My mom poked her head in my doorway as I set my controller down to look back at her. I arched an eyebrow—while she was a very sweet woman, she rarely sought my opinion. Of course, who could blame her? I was 19 years old and a freshman in college, so what advice could I possibly give her?

“Sure, Mom. What’s up?”

To be honest, it put me in an awkward spot. Sure, my mom was an attractive woman, but she was offering to put on a fashion show for me. So while it felt weird to say yes, I did what any good son would do.

“Yeah, I can help. Show me what you got,” I replied with a smile.

“Oh, you’re the best! Give me a bit and I’ll be right back!”

Before I could say another word, she had turned and left my room, presumably to return to hers to change. Little did I know that in another hour or two, while Dad was working, I’d be joining her in her room and showing her that I was the best in other things than just giving my two cents on fashion.
