You have no idea why you’ve been called to your boss’s office. It's late afternoon, and all of your coworkers have gone home. Why is this mystery meeting scheduled so late? Still, you are not that worried. You have been performing great at work for the past year, and you’ve got the impression that your boss, whom you are scheduled to meet, quite likes you. Perhaps he wants to discuss a promotion?

You enter to find your boss sitting behind his desk with a serious look on his face. Your heart drops. This does not look like a promotion conversation.

He clears his throat as he points to the chair across from him:

“Listen, this is going to be a hard conversation, and I've thought a lot about how to handle this. I wondered whether I needed HR present, but I've taken the liberty of assuming you would appreciate an opportunity to handle this without alerting anyone.”

You are in shock. You have no idea where this conversation is heading. You haven't done anything that could warrant HR’s attention, have you? Your boss continues his monologue:

“I have set up a system that alerts me if anyone uses their company computer for anything that goes against company policy. I had almost forgotten about it, as very few people would be stupid enough to use the company computer for anything but work. But you…”

He gets out of his chair, and turns his PC screen 180° so it is facing you. The realization hits you like a hammer. The company logs your browser history! You have been using your laptop searching porn at home! And - oh God - he has screenshots of everything. You quickly take in the list: “Gagging amateur girlfriend”, “painal girlfriend”, “rough bdsm humiliation”, “first time anal”, “ass to mouth”, “bondage rimjob”, “otk spanking”, “judicial punishment”.

It's all there. And he knows.

“Now, what do you propose we do about this situation? Let me know if you want HR involved and I'll call them right away. But you have such a promising career here, and I would hate to see you get fired, which is definitely what they would make me do if I called them…”
