You were going through some hard times and asked if you could rent my spare room. I offered to let you stay for free, but you insisted that you could pay. But you missed the first month. Then the second month. I stopped by your room one day after work to ask if you might be able to pay rent soon.
"I'm sorry, but I don't think so," you said.
I nodded and thought about what I might say.
"I might be able to pay you another way," you said, reaching out and undoing my belt. "If you'd like to."
