Why is Dave so insistent on Gazelle and getting out of debt in say 3-5 years, and being more comfortable?

3-5 years for debt repayment is still a pretty short timeline when you consider life!

I don't think this is terrible advice, of course you make a plan based on what makes sense to your income, but if you are in debt, the fastest you can at least not add to the pile the better. It can be a real cliff if you never get off the debt treadmill.
