Long term success?
Post Body

This post is inspired by one I just saw about how many callers follow DR's advice.

If we consider only those people who successfully work the baby steps and get out of debt, what percentage stay out of debt and for how long? Does anyone know any stats on that? Does anyone know people (maybe from FPU) that get in debt again? Does anyone know people who have paid off all their debt, then "relapsed?"

Comments

I think relapse would be low as long as your financial circumstances stay the same. However we live in a world where things can change..something like divorce or job loss can probably get you right back in the bad habits.

I read Money Makeover way way back when and I agreed with the principles that debt was bad and people overconsume to try to impress people. The basic principles were great.

Just like alcohol, I've come to terms that I am not an alcoholic and I can pay for things with a credit card and pay it off each cycle without issue and get a small amount of money back, no Dave its not enough to 'get rich' off of, but it pays for a few days of vacation a year which is nice.
