So people who think they are above average often are good looking, but those who think they are god's gift are just often not to my taste. Now, I appreciate it is all subjective, but here's my thinking.

I think it is like the gym bros who think they are the most attractive guys ever are mainly catering to what other men think looks good, rather than women. Lots of the hottest guys are surprisingly kind faced rather than masculine etc.

And I think it is the same for women. Those who think they are the best are actually just a bit fake looking or overdone or just generally generic.
