Got my husband the original VB for Christmas, but how is the BE one?

I bought my husband the original Vital Bracelet without really doing much research, but I do know there is a new one now. It seems like there's a lot of mixed opinions though. Did I make a mistake or did I dodge a bullet?
Also, if I want to buy another one for myself, should I get an older one or a newer one? I feel like it might be weird to have a new one if he's got the old one, because some things will be different, right?
