Cold Weather Heaters?

Just purchased my first Diesel ( 2007.5 Duramax 6.6 ) and i live in northern canada ( Cold Climate ) . I'm putting on a block heater, and going to get a silicon-on heater pad for the oil pan. I will also plan on running synthetic oil for the winter, but other than that, does anyone have any tips for the cold weather?
