Yet another "I inherited a collection" post
Post Body

Yes, this is another post asking about information about inherited collectibles.

In any of subreddits for vintage collectibles in particular, I'm sure one of such "how much is my inherited collection worth posts" will often be repeated so first of all, really sorry to anyone here who's bothered by it!

So I've been asked to help clear out a collection of over 1700 diecast models (similar to the ones pictured, mainly from Matchbox, Corgi, Dinky, Solido, and a few other names I don't remember as well). Although we're very willing to let go of the entire collection in bulk for cheap, problem is, where I'm located (Singapore) is pretty far from the collectors or dealers who'd be interested. I'm not able to find anyone locally who would even be willing to walk around and pick through the collection.

Due to the size of the collection, I'm having a tough time figuring out where to start. I've dug through Ebay, Etsy, and various websites quoting "mint values" for certain models, but it's difficult to understand just how badly the condition of what I have will reduce the value in comparison to the prices I see or at what prices I'll need to list things at in order to find interested buyers.

So to list out the main questions I have at the moment:

  1. Does have any recommended reading material be if books of websites that I can check out to learn more about what I'm seeing and to recognise which items are valuable?

  2. Would posting photos and selling them off one by one through $1/$5 start price auctions on Ebay for instance be a good way to clear the collection? Or would the risk of getting a terrible price for everything be too high?

I've uploaded a couple of photos of parts of the collection I took home to start with, including a few additional photos showing some of the common damages I'm dealing with. Will appreciate any comments regarding the value in such cases and do let me know if I just happen to have anything desirable? 😂

Thanks a lot for reading if you got this far!
