New to the Diablo saga. Recommendations?

A while ago I bought the Diablo 2R Diablo 3 Diablo 4 pack, and now that I have time since I'm on vacation, which one should I start with?
Number 4 catches my attention, especially because I have heard that it has improved a lot lately. Is that right? Everyone also says that D2R is very good, although I am new to this genre and maybe it would be easier to start with 4. If I started with D2R, is it better offline or online?
Any recommendations?
