I recently picked up Diablo II again after not playing for about 15 years, and am having a blast. It's really amazing too to see that the D2 community is still alive and well โ it just goes to show just how well-made a game it is.
As I'm spending more time playing though, I'm now remembering some of the more tedious aspects of playing single player / PVM, and remembered that back in the day I used to use some mods that made the game more fun. Only problem is that all the mods seem to be for PC, and I'm now exclusively a Mac user.
Does anyone know of any D2 mods designed for Mac (OSX 10.14)? Or know of any that can be made to work on Mac with a little bit of hacking?
A few things I was hoping to be able to mod:
- larger inventory, stash, & horadric cube space (doesn't have to be infinite like PlugY, just a little more space would be amazing)
- auto-pickup of gold
- use of ladder-only runewords
- increase the "/players X" function to allow higher than 8
- better Merc customization (i.e. ability to equip rings & amulets, etc) would be cool, but not as necessary
- ability to view character stats that aren't otherwise shown (i.e. total magic find %) would also be cool but not necessary
Really the bigger storage space increase is the main thing I'm looking for.
So far I haven't had much luck. I've found this Mule app that works for Mac, but I'd rather something in-game. I also found this guide for porting certain PC mods over to Mac, but the app it relies on to make most of them work (MPQ Tool) hasn't been updated since 2005 and no longer works (presumably since OSX dropped PowerPC app support with 10.14). There's this whole forum devoted to D2 Mac Modding, but it's super technical, and not really active anymore, so for the few relevant posts I found I'm running into the same PPC issue. Lastly, I found this Reddit thread on playing with PlugY on Mac, but if I'm reading it correctly the only way to do it is to just play the PC version on a Windows emulator โ I may end up resorting to that, but was hoping there was an easier way.
Have any Mac players had any luck with this?
