Diablo 4 can't decide what it is.

So I want to start by saying I do enjoy playing Diablo 4. However It suffers because the creators not only missed the source material some but couldn't decide what kind of game they were building. Diablo 4 it's as if they tried to get as close to an MMO without being one that's what causes a lot of the failure.

So the game being constantly online is one issue. I know the servers have been good for the most part. However I know many of us have died because the game glitches or lags nothing like getting rubber banded back into the enemies that you ran past using all your skills and now all your skills are on cooldown but you're back in the middle of the group. I know it's becoming more common for games to require online it shouldn't be. One of the great things about the original Diablo Diablo 2 and even Diablo 3 is there's nothing in that game that I cannot do by myself or with a friend. This whole using online to prevent cheating or this live service model it's not working .

Their answer to half of the things that they're discovering is Nerf it. Some of the builds are stronger than others that's going to happen in any game but the answer shouldn't be oh four of the five classes are fantastic forget buffing the fifth we'll just Nerf the other four. Or look players have found the dungeon that is best for gaining experience will nerve all dungeons try and make it where they can only earn the same amount roughly in everyone. Oh look several people have figured out how to break the game well that's immediately Nerf some of these skills so that can't happen. My personal favorite is those big groups of enemies in the middle of dungeons that give you nothing no experience and you're lucky if you get gold and a health potion.

This whole world scaling means that at level 19 I can be doing fantastic feeling like I'm strong. Come back to the same areas level 20 and instead of feeling stronger all of a sudden the enemies that before I could handle or now kicking my butt. You're going to make a loot hard to come by with all of these add-ons and side effects distant close vulnerable chilled it went too far. It becomes almost impossible to find gear that matches a build so then you won't trade your weapon you won't trade your armor but because you haven't been getting better armor or better weapons the enemies are going to put you in your place. I'm not against World scaling if it's done right in Diablo Forest current state it is not in my opinion.

They don't sell it as an MMO because they're just shy of it. However they put several things in the game that really only work in groups you're going to put World bosses that are only on the map for a short time and if somebody kills them in that time everyone else is out of luck hopefully you as an adult have time the next time a world boss will appear. Helltides are nice however again it's entirely designed around a bunch of players showing up. Why can't the world bosses be like the old key warden or if you want to go back to Diablo 2 let it be like the Butcher and Mephisto all I got to do is restart my game and I can fight him again if I please. Same thing for the tides why design it around hopefully you get a bunch of people that are decent. Put these things on timers make it where people want to play online with random people they can but if they want to play solo including World and tides they can.

Now to discuss where the game somewhat fails and its biggest way. My opinion is items. Do we have set pieces that flow together no do we have a bunch of uniques and legendaries no. If you want to claim legendaries most of them have the exact same aspects how many of us have gotten the do your core skills do more if you cast basic first. That's not a legendary. He gave us the Codex of aspects but you can't even get all of the abilities in there you want to make uniques and ability I can't rip out great fine I'll actually support this but any other ability I should be able to replace it. Oh you've got the Codex power for 10% damage reduction as a werewolf if you destroy this helmet you can upgrade that to the 14%. This whole only being able to use it once only forces you to continue to hunt for things and that actually breaks some of the fun. Because they added so many different abilities to gear and everything you end up with weapons that are half what you need and half probably not. Oh but in the end game you can adjust it easily no you can't it's expensive and it requires parts that you can't easily get but hopefully you enjoy grinding for those exact same things over and over.

If I work super hard and get a necromancer to level 100 with all the glyphs I should be able to start a new Necromancer and at least have the glyphs when I hit Level 50. When you get lucky and finally get that perfect roll on a legendary ability your reward for that degree of luck should be able to put that in whatever you want. They already make it very expensive in the game to do it once making you sit there and not use aspects that you have to find in the wild repeatedly.

And of course let's not forget the shop. You're going to put a lot of the things in there for 10 to $25 why. Those prices are outrageous especially for things that can only be put on one character type. Yes it's not necessary and we don't have to purchase those things. However some of the things I've listed here show that they weren't paying attention to the source or the people.

They tried to turn Diablo 4 into an MMO when Nephilim are supposed to be rare. They made it hard to get gear. They keep making it harder to level up. Yet they claim they are listening to us. I bought it hoping that they will fix a lot of this. I play it hoping they will fix a lot of this. I fear they won't. Blizzard gave us a mobile game we didn't want followed by an MMO we didn't ask for. Give us back Diablo where I can enjoy it alone or with a friend.
