Nations need to invest in creating currency if they want to take the next step in development. However, currency is a tricky thing that people don't understand. Let me try to explain how to set currency up for you and your nation.
Use WordBank to get a custom brand. You will get a key to this brand that no one else knows - guard it like the security of your currency depends on it! It really does, though.
Mint money - Use your brand to "mint" pieces of paper, seeds, whatever cheap material you want. I will use seeds for this example. Make sure to keep track of how much currency you produce - let's say you mint 1000 Seed.
Determine the standard material off of which your currency will be based. For most, this means diamonds. This physically takes the form of carefully guarded and accounted-for diamonds in a vault or in reinforcements. Aka, your National Reserve. The more secure this is the more faith people will have in your currency.
Sell your currency at a standard value! This is the most important step - if you sell 100 Seed for 10 diamonds, 1 Seed = .1 diamonds. However, if you sell the next 100 Seed at 20 diamonds, 1 Seed = .15 diamonds! This is because you now have 30 diamonds in your National Reserve and 200 Seed in circulation. I highly suggest determining what you want the value of your currency and sell at that rate.
Some anticipated FAQs:
Why a currency?
A currency allows a common medium of trade between people who do not produce items each other want. Basically, currency can help boost your economy and increase the influence of your nation as other nations take advantage of your currency.
Is there a way to mass print currency?
The answer is no, and you can thank Bonkill for that. For now, you will have to take a bit of time to print your currency, which is why I suggest you print currency before getting the people involved.
How do I increase or decrease the value of my currency?
Print more money and sell it at an increased or decreased amount of diamonds than the current value is.
Buy money for a increased or decreased amount of diamonds than the current value is, then burn the money.
An angry citizen burns 100 Seed - does this increase the value of the Seed?
The short answer is no, it will stay the same - the National Reserve now technically owns 10 diamonds that it is not entitled to reimburse. However, if the 100 Seed is well documented having been taken out of the currency, the National Reserve may chose to increase the value of the Seed to reflect the new official number of Seed in circulation.
