I've been really struggling getting interviews for networking jobs that I genuinely believed would be a good fit. But considering all the talk about hiring freeze on entry-level positions, I can't seem to get my foot in the door to start my career.
I'm currently doing a one year, level 7 in computer networks through Springboard and one thing I was considering was doing a tech apprenticeship through FIT simultaneously. It's a two-year program and I'm not certain if it's possible for them to put me through to a company without having to do all the level 6 stuff again over the next two years. They advised that I should make an application and attend an information session, but I wish they'd give me a straight answer to avoid wasting time...
Is it reasonable for me to even consider going down this path after having completed an internship last year with a well known tech company? I understand that the odds may be against me since I'm competing with candidates who have certs, more experience or a level 8 under their belt. I recently had my CV constructively reviewed and they advised that I should probably remove a lot of things that are not directly relevant to IT to turn it back into a one-pager, (including some of the volunteering and stuff that I thought would be considered to be transferable skills). I'm hoping this will help as they all say the reason I'm not getting interviews is usually the CV. I still need tweak it some more and work on having a more active presence is LinkedIn. One thing that recruitment might find off-putting is the gaps and jumps in my career. I have perfectly valid reasons for thus and it's something I want to work on by getting a contract with a decent employer.
TL;DR: Is an ICT Apprenticeship really worth doing for someone who has already studied IT Networks just to get a start on their career? Let me know your thoughts!
