First, like any other Pistons fan, yesterday was probably as close as to our championship that I’ve been happy as a fan. Now, that I’ve been able to think clearly, I am starting to realize that Weaver has a lot of options and that taking Cade 1st is the best option for the Pistons but not completely due to the leverage we have now. I think we should consider the fact that Weaver drafted Killian for a reason. I still believe in Killian and I don’t think we should for one second believe that Weaver does have faith in him either. Will Weaver take Cade, which is the consensus first pick, or will he exercise his options.
Let’s be real, we have a solid young team and all the leverage in one of the most talented draft classes. What will Weaver do? And if he doesn’t take Cade 1st, what will be the scenario that will not make us protest? (take Mobley, trade down, etc.)
There are many teams that are very desperate right now for one of the top 4 picks. Weaver has a lot to think about and while we all want Cade, we don’t know what Weaver will do. Think about how the Cavs traded Wiggins at 1st or even how Tatum worked out better than Fultz and Ball. We can trade down and still get the complimentary piece we need while also securing even more assets. Weaver is an OKC product. He understands leverage and so I wouldn’t sleep until we fully secure Cade on draft night.
Thoughts? (Please before I get attacked, try not to be so emotional but rather objective in your answer. This is a business and leverage is sometimes sought to not to make the obvious move but the more strategic move(s)).
