Hi there,

So... I'm moving to the U.S. After much (read a week or two as I was very set on the states I would be living in, the cities came soon after) consternation, Detroit is the place I'd like to spend a significant portion of my 20s in and it seems that studying there is an opportune way to do that. My other options in the state of Michigan were :

Grand Rapids, Lansing, Saginaw

and the other state I was planning on moving to was New York (also to study lol), and my options were :

NYC

Buffalo

Rochester

Here a ol nasty piece of caveat before I begin writing this :

Let's get into it

I'm in my early 20s, I did 3 years of (British) college and one of the two qualifications I have from that is in Light Automotive Maintenance and Repair and then I did and passed a year at a (pretty prestigious) University in a Humanities subject. I've had one job in a restaurant albeit a placement job that lasted 6 months. I am very ambivalent about being able to get work of any kind in Michigan with the humble Resume I have so I have instead turned my attention to studying there. If there are those who think it's possible for me to find work there, let me know. I have meandered between looking at Universities and Community College but I am partial to Community Colleges because I have seen that they seem to be less expensive and more accessible for Immigrants but I am unsure how true that is, on top of me probably studying an automotive course as this seems to be an industry I am most likely to get work in after finishing my studies. The reason I am applying for universities here is because the level of the course I did at College had to be higher for me to apply to study at a University here, in addition to me being specifically interested in autobody schools as well as holistic automotive education.

I'm in the process of looking at applying at the following Community Colleges

- Wayne County Community College (Automotive, Culinary Arts, Business)

- Henry Ford College (Automotive, Culinary Arts, Business)

- Maccomb Community College (Automotive, Culinary Arts, Business)

- Oakland Community College (Automotive, Culinary Arts, Business)

There is much ambivalence when I ask about applying to community colleges in the U.S. as the sectors I talked on had slim chances of employment for intl students, but what is the consensus on the viability of these sectors when it comes to getting employed after a community college

Also, I work at a job right now and have $10000 saved, I wanted to ask if you are only asked to prove you have funds for one year when you apply to CC, or if they ask for more.

- Is Detroit safe for students?

- Can someone get around Detroit w/o a car?

- Are there many students my age in Detroit?

- Is Detroit a place many students are able to ardently find work after finishing study?

- How likely am I to be able to study in Detroit based on the experience and qualifications I have?

- How likely am I to secure work in the sectors I spoke about earlier?

- Do many people my age successfully find work after CC? Or do they go into University?

- Is CC more affordable in the U.S. as opposed to Canada?
