Post Body
I have a scratch on my red civics car door, about 20cm's long. When I spray water on it, maybe about 5 cm vanishes and the rest stays. Its probably only around 1 or 2mm wide. I watched some video's about removing it myself than paying a bodyshop to do it.
I will say I have no experience in this so please tell me if this is a bad idea, but these were the steps I was going to take.
- Clear the area, soapy water and some rubbing alcohol.
- Smooth out the scratch, dry sand 1000/1500 grit to smooth out the edges.
- Tape either side of the scratch leave a small gap either side and paint.
- Once you've built up layers, peel the tape off
- Thin dry sand with 800grit the built up paint so its level (or wet sand?)
- 2x thin layers of clear coat, let dry and then wet sand 800grit and working up 1500/2000 etc until smooth.
- Then wet sand even higher grit 3000/5000 and polish
Have I missed anything? Or any tips?
