For anyone looking to smash out Dawning Essence for gift/weapons/triumphs by far the fastest and most efficient farm is the final Boss of the Shattered Throne.
In my experience you get on average 21 Essence per kill and if you have an efficient team (ie. kill the 3 knights at once so they don't respawn, burst DPS like rockets, etc) you can be doing a run (including load times and character switching) in under 2 minutes.
