Am I the only one who misses leveling the weapons?

I mean, it gave me a reason to try different weapons for a while to see how they would develop. Having several perks on the weapons to work towards gave you a goal and a reason. The mod system just seems stale and not interesting the way it is now. Leveling the weapon to allow several mods to be put on would be cool and allow us to customize each weapon to our own style of play.
