Some real talk here now that the game's been out for a few weeks: How do you guys feel about the power weapon system?
When Bungie announced the change back at the reveal, the whole idea about lumping special and heavy weapons together felt outright wrong to me. I made a couple of posts about it in the past calling foul on Bungie for this maybe a little too zealously, but I had the right to, it was a big change.
Looking at the state of the game now, with Mida dominating the field and what not I find myself thinking again:
Would it really change the game if snipers/shotguns/fusions if they were added back in as secondaries/elemental weapons? Are they truly equivalent to swords, rockets and grenade launchers (rip heavy machine guns, you are sorely missed)?
I feel like in PvE I've had too many encounters where I was in a situation that I needed a special/heavy weapon combo to deal with adds and bosses (this week's Nightfall comes to mind).
Obviously this could break PvP but let's be honest it's a little MIDA broken already. I feel that the balance with "special" weapons is actually really good right now, it's just not creating the fun encounters we had back in D1 (yes there were a lot of broken weapons but Bungie can fix individual weapons now rather than applying blanket nerfs).
Technical stuff aside, here's some personal gripes with it:
This whole weapon system feels way too funky for me to truly call it Destiny, especially when you can't dual-wield hand cannons and sidearms when you got them equipped. Like, come on Bungie! It's like you went "No, you guys complain too much so no fun allowed (but please buy our game)!" Also, Shaax still calls it heavy ammo! Lord "I am the Crucible" Shaax doesn't acknowledge the change! Unless he can somehow bend the fabric of time to yell at Guardians in D1 about it, it's bonkers.
I don't mind having elemental primaries, in fact I think it's great for weapon diversity, but it's just bizarre to me that you would go through all this trouble in separating primaries and power weapons, then make a weak exotic power weapon as an elemental primary?? What?? Are we going to get an exotic sword that can go in the kinetic slot next? (Ngl, that would be awesome though, wouldn't it?)
Okay, rant over so...
Tl; dr, Are snipers, shotty's and fusions really equal to rockets and other heavy weapons? Should Bungie change it so they should be in the energy weapon pool. Leave your thoughts on it.
