(Destiny 1) PC player who just got the first game on the Xbox 360 to pass the time, level 40, now what?

So when I got the game, I rolled a Warlock, used the consumable to boost myself to 25, and had a decent time getting the rest of the way to 40. I just did the survival mode in The Reed, and got my first exotic... even though it's only level 20.
Do I have to do the raid to get good stuff at my level, or are there other ways to get fine loot? Since I'm on Xbox 360, we don't have Iron Lords, or any of the expansions past the Taken King.
