TL;DR - You can farm Treasure Cave style without needing to run up and down stairs like you're Rocky the fucking Guardian. This is what it looks like, it's amazing for getting Ether Drops and headshot kills and it's calm and relaxing like Skywatch was.
So I'm sure by now many of you have read this post about the new farming spot in The Steppes, but have lamented that it requires a bit of running around to do it properly.
Well, actually, you can farm that same spot without moving an inch. And here's how.
When you spawn (in patrol - no reason to do it in Restoration), run to the warehouse thingy smack dab in the middle of the zone and kill everything there. Don't worry about rushing to the next step, nothing will respawn until you get into position.
From here, turn to face away from the entrance of the warehouse, to the wall. Specifically, this section. Where the target reticle is - that's where you'll need to be crouching on for things to spawn. Getting up there is a little tricky, though, so I've outlined how to do it:
- Walk up to the pillar numbered 1, turn your back to it and jump your ass up, holding the left analog stick down so you're pushing backwards.
- When you've landed on the ledge, crouch and walk your fat guardian ass over to about the area where the number 2 is.
- You'll know you've shimmied over far enough when enemies start spawning.
This is about where you want to be aiming. You'll be getting 6 Fallen at a time, usually 2 Dregs and 4 Vandals but occasionally 3 of each and, much less often, 4 Dregs and 2 Vandals.
That's all there is to it! But there are a few events that might screw you up a little, so I'll do my best to ease your pain below:
If you're farming the spot solo, you may be a bit hard-pressed to kill all of the enemies as they run up the stairs, and they'll head for cover behind the shipping containers if you can't get them down. I recommend having your main gun be either a pulse rifle or a long-range auto rifle that can kill them without worrying about that, or a scout rifle with the enhancement to give area-of-effect explosion damage when the bullet hits something. I also strongly recommend having the enhancement that allows you to shoot ammo to pick it up - you'll never have to leave your perch until the Defeat Extraction Crews event starts.
But if you're still stuck, here are some quick FAQs:
Help, some stupid fucking no-balls Dreg is hiding behind a shipping container!
Oh no! Well, if it was a Dreg, it will be hiding behind a shipping container either where 1 or 2 is. If it's hiding behind 1, you'll see just the tip of its mohawk rising and falling ever so slightly where that #1 is. If it's a Vandal finding cover, it's hiding either behind #2 (which isn't an issue - it's too tall to actually be covered so you can shoot it in the face) or behind the rock where #3 is. So how do you get rid of them?
- For Dregs where #1 is, you can either blow them up with a rocket launcher, throw a grenade on top of that container to flush them out (though sometimes they're scared little bitches and don't want to move), or if you have an AoE-on-impact enhancement you can shoot at the ground next to the left side of the shipping container, right at the edge the Dreg is hiding behind, and do ~5-28 damage per shot to them.
- For Dregs where #2 is, you can either blow them up with a rocket launcher or flush them out with a grenade - even one that doesn't injure them will probably make them leave their cover so you can shoot it in the face.
- For Vandals where #3 is, you have the same options as #1, and shooting to the lower-left corner of where I put that #3 should hit the Vandal with the AoE until it either leaves cover or dies.
Help! Nothing is spawning!
This is the most tedious part if you don't have a rocket launcher and sniper rifle, since this is caused by a Fallen skiff dropping off enemies in the area off to your left (the couple trucks with shipping containers near the small body of water). Use your sniper rifle (or rocket launcher if they're all clumped up together) to pick off as many as possible. For the stragglers:
- Use your rocket launcher against the wall of that big building (where the Dregs will occasionally hide against) to blow them up or flush them out if they didn't die.
- Use your rocket launcher between the cement blocks to blow up Dregs hiding behind there.
- Use your rocket launcher near the ground by the back of the truck to blow up Dregs hiding behind it, or flush them out if they didn't die.
I'm not sure exactly how many of those you need to kill to get the warehouse Fallen to respawn - sometimes it's only 2 or 3, sometimes it's all of them.
Your other option is to wait for some doing the Restoration mission to scan the downed Guardian ship with their Ghost. This has, in my experience, always forced the warehouse Fallen to respawn.
Help, I don't understand everything you're trying to say! Can't you make a YouTube video?
I've honestly never done it before, and I wouldn't know how to get started now. I'm sure if this gets a little exposure, a YouTuber will see it and make an explanatory video of their own. But really, once you hop up onto the ledge and see the mobs spawning, you'll know what to do!
