Should I save all my Ascendant Shards? Not getting drops from VoG.

So yesterday I went into VoG and killed Atheon for a second time. Grabbed every chest in there, too.
Second week in a row with every single drop being Ascendant Energy. Atheon dropped a shader. I'm sitting on 36 or so Shards right now, and I'm debating just using the damn things on normal legendary gear since I can't get a drop from VoG. Should I hold out, or use them now? I'm about halfway through Lv27 right now.
