Why is Drifter still around?

Post Body

So if you remember from about(or maybe more) a year ago we learned the backstory of Drifter and that he was running from something he saw beyond Sol(or so he claims). He said he had a ship with a seat for us, if we wanted it(if you took his side for the Vanguard/Drifter quest), and in the final Invitation of the Nine, the Nine showed his coin with the Pyramid on it.

Fast forward to Shadowkeep, and the discovery of the Pyramid on the Moon. You'd think that he would try and book it on out of Sol, just to try and survive whatever conflict comes next between the Light and the Dark, yet he's still around. His Gambit has paid off, and the Shadows are(if I remember after we got Lumina)disbanded, so why hasn't he left the system other then because "Gambit Vendor"?

Is that just it, that Bungie just need a Gambit vendor so that it'll still be one of the activities for powerful gear? Or does Shin, Dredgen Vale, whichever he now uses these days, still have plans for Gambit to see who can walk the alleged line between Light and Dark?
