So Bungie is changing up the seasonal model with 3 longer episodes instead of 4 seasons. One thing that’s new about this is that they previewed the three episodes outright:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/24866434/d2_Episodic_Roadmap_Final_EN.jpg) as opposed to releasing them one by one. I’ve been thinking about each of them and here are my thoughts.

Episode 1: Echoes

This seems like it’s going to be about Yirix and the Psion rebellion. The Psion featured in the image could really only be her and the name “echoes” calls back to her mysterious broadcasts during Vox Obscura. I imagine Saladin and Caiatl will be heavily involved in defeating Yirix and fully uniting the Cabal.

Episode 2: Revenant

The Fanatic is FINALLLYYYYY coming back. The last we heard of him was that he managed to escape the Reef during Season of the Lost, and he’s been a big unresolved thread since then. I have long had a spinfoil theory that the Fanatic’s death cycle could be related to the Dreaming City’s curse cycle since they both fall under the “cyclical wish magic” umbrella. I imagine this would be a Crow-heavy episode due to his connection with Fikrul. And if this episode does end up tackling the Dreaming City curse, we’d definitely be seeing more of Mara and Petra.

Episode 3: Heresy

I imagine this will be the conclusion to Xivu Arath’s arc. Whatever happens at the end of Season of the Witch will definitely set the stage for it, but I believe that we might be seeing the Inquisition of Self from the Pit of Heresy lore returning. Bungie has been loading Chekhov’s Guns for years (we’ve seen how deep they go with the Veil Containment lore and the Maya Sundaresh = Lakshmi-2 hints), and this ritual seems way too important to not bring up again. The Inquisition of Self is seen as one of the greatest heresies of the Sword Logic, as a less powerful being can become a more powerful one. Again, I don’t know how Season of the Witch will end, but this ritual seems too important to the Hive (especially with the episode title Heresy) to not be brought up at least one more time.
