“Today is the big day.” Amanda Holliday said to Viper-7 who was smiling proudly at her work, “It’s beautiful. Your best yet.” She smacks the Hunter in the back pretty hard causing him to chuckle as she shakes her hand in pain regretting her choice forgetting he’s a walking body of metal.

Aria materializes in front of the two and bounces, “Shall I give Lotus the news to Revenant and Luna?” V nods, “Yeah. I’m really excited to give her this present.”

Viper had been waiting patiently as he watches Revenant and Luna arrive in the Hangar from the Tower Courtyard. The Hunter had been sitting by Cayde’s old nook giving the Colonel her daily meal. He looks at the two with a smile before making his way to them and pulling Luna into a tight hug.

He rests his hands on her shoulders, “Ready for your final lesson?” She nods enthusiastically getting a slight chuckle out of Revenant.

“I’ll be going then.” The Warlock starts to turn away before Viper releases his grip from Luna and puts his hand on Revenant’s shoulder stopping him, “I think you should be here for this lesson.” Rev looks at Viper curiously through his helmet as Viper smiles gently. The Warlock nods quietly and turns to stand behind Luna and Polaris.

Viper gestures grandly, “What makes a Hunter? Is it the way we wield the light? Is it our sense of adventure? The way we fight?”

Luna looks on with interest as Viper delivers his speech while Revenant looks on with quiet intrigue.

“We are the Scouts of The Last City of Humanity. We will never be as smart as the Warlocks or as tough as the Titans. But dammit if we’re not the wiliest guardians on the field. Adventure courses through your veins Luna. The unquenchable thirst for new experiences keeps you moving forward towards every horizon. Out on the field you’ll have nothing but your wits, your skills, and your closest partner Polaris most days. But as a Hunter you’re never truly alone.”

He gestures to her cloak which she looks at proudly before putting a hand on the clasp of his own cloak. Rev looks on in quite respect as the Hunter continues to speak with zeal. He can tell immediately who he’s channeling for this speech remembering her laugh as she spoke with vigor.

“You don the cloak of a Hunter knowing full well the weight you carry wearing it with pride and respect of those that came before you and those that stand alongside you. You carry on the hopes, the dreams, the memories, and the lives of those you’ve met and those who have passed. Through your eyes, your will, and your spirit their adventures continue on. And not just fellow Hunters. Friends,” He gestures to Amanda, “and Family.” He gestures to Revenant who looks at Viper with a somber smile, “This is the promise you will keep for the rest of your immortal life.”

Luna nods proudly at her mentor while Rev looks at Viper in slight awe. He remembers why he choose him as the mentor of Luna and smiles proudly.

“Luna…” Viper turns around and starts walking to an empty space in the hangar while continuing his speech, “Through action, a Hunter can become a Hero.” Aria materializes beside her guardian about to do something, “Through death, a Hero becomes a Legend.” Rev and Luna immediately look at The Hunter and for a brief moment Rev swears he sees both Sai and Cayde standing with Viper side by side, “Through time, a Legend becomes a Myth…” He pauses and turns to face his pupil and his oldest friend.

The young awoken asks with piqued curiosity, “And what happens to the Myth?” Viper smiles as a Jumpship flies into the hangar and lands in the empty dock their standing in. Aria had summoned it through the auto pilot mechanism installed. The ship was beautiful and similar in design to Viper’s own jumpship which was modelled after Cayde’s known as the Queen of Hearts but instead of Cayde’s trademark spade decal on the jumpship there was a crescent moon emblazoned in front of a bright pointed star representing both Luna and Polaris, “Through the myths, A Hunter is inspired to action.”

Luna looks in awe at her Hunter as he stands in front of the jumpship that has just landed, “You’ve finished your training Luna. As a Hunter of The City. Take your jumpship Artemis and go out into the world. Embrace your destiny and build your story.” The Awoken girl looks stunned at the realization that the jumpship was hers and looks at Viper, “My Jumpship?” Viper nods proudly, “A Hunter can’t go explore the universe without a ship. Spread your wings and fly Luna. But always know you have a family and a home waiting for you here at the tower.”

Rev is absolutely speechless as he looks at Luna who quickly wipe away some tears with her sleeve, “I’ll make you proud V! And you too Rev! Watch me please!” She has the biggest smile from ear to ear looking at the two Exo’s who cared for her deeply before running off with Polaris into her jumpship.

Viper turns looking at jumpship smiling proudly as Rev slowly walks up beside him and takes his helmet off in front of the Hunter for the first time in a very long time. Viper looks at Rev and smiles, “Now there’s a face I haven’t seen in forever.”

Rev nods quietly as he stares at Luna in the cockpit smiling, “She’s grown so much Viper…” Viper shakes his head and tentatively wraps an arm around Rev’s shoulders, “She has…” The Awoken girl looks down waving as she gets ready for liftoff and the two wave gently back.

“V…” Rev mutters quietly to Viper’s surprise at hearing his nickname from his friends mouth. The Hunter looks at his friend to see him smiling and crying, “She’s grown up so fast.” V starts crying and laughing as he sees her liftoff and fly out of the hangar, “Yeah, I’m so proud of her. She’ll be amazing Rev.” Rev nods watching her jumpship become smaller and smaller in the distance, “She had an amazing teacher.” Viper smiles gently at that, “Don’t sell yourself short. She also had a loving father.” Rev looks at V with surprise before smiling, “Guess that makes you her insane uncle.” V laughs, “Damn right it does.”

The two look on quietly for a while before the exhaust trail left behind by her jumpship disappears from the air to which Viper asks, “How about a drink at the usual place like old times?” Revenant nods quietly, “I’d like that V…I’d like that a lot.”

V and Rev both hold their glasses up and arms up mimicking an old friend who they both miss dearly but know is with them in spirit during this celebration. They yell in unison to the whole bar smiling as bright as she did, “A toast! To our favorite Hunter to grace these walls.” Viper yells first, “She may be the youngest!” To which Revenant follows up, “She may be the newest!” and together in unison yet again, “But damn if she ain’t gonna be the greatest! To Luna!” The whole bar raises their glasses in celebration, “To Luna!!!”

The Exo’s smile at each other before looking at the empty seat at their table where their friend watches over them. She was the most beautiful and graceful Bladedancer. Her name was Sai Mota. Her story has ended but her legacy lives on in the eyes and adventures of an Awoken Hunter.

Author's Note: I hope you all enjoyed my part in Luna's story as much as I did. I had so much fun writing this heartfelt story of what a Hunter means to me through the eyes of a mentor and their pupil.
