So, um, Destiny read my comment off the DGG chat:
@Destiny Your argument defending the whole "cops enforcing attendance" strategy is so revealing, because the closest approximate system where you manage a non-violent socioeconomic problem with state violence, psychological trauma and terror is fascism lmao, right down to disproportionate targeting of minorities.
He went off on it a bit without understanding where I'm coming from, which was to be expected. I did add that:
@Destiny Except you did, you went into a false dichotomy. You could've just said cops need to be yeeted out of the equation and replaced with a proper social intervention, but no, we get your crude consequentialism that hints at the logic validating a police state.
All well and good, I said my piece and didn't expect it to go anywhere.
Well, expect that a few minutes later, Destiny was easily contemplating having the fucking military enforce truancy laws, to the point of considering a system where the state can outright kidnap kids from their parents because truancy is tantamount to child abuse (vague paraphrase, wish I had the clips right now).
I just want to say make this point: If your system is going to rely on strict normative standards because you care deeply about education and the development of the minds of young people, but then you can entertain brutalizing disadvantaged families with the state monopoly of violence to impose your desired state of affairs, then you might hold an extremely dangerous ideology whose implications you've not thought through at all. Criminalizing poverty won't get you the results you want, Steven; you're going to create even more pain and misery with this moralistic, punitive justice framework that fails to incorporate the question of intersectionality. Achieving a 20% boost in attendance without even thinking about the systems of oppression you're justifying to get these short-term good consequences is how you get horrible societal consequences further down the line.
Please, expand your horizons and stop with the false dilemmas; the narrow worldview you're dabbling into is reactionary as fuck, whether you realize it or not.
Positive suggestion: Google Mariame Kaba and get her on for a chat, maybe she could get you to see things differently.
I know you can do better than this buddy :)
TL;DR Steven is morally lucky PEPE
