right; i haven't watched the podcast so i'm not sure if the part where I explained this was left in, but in art and media, a crescent moon is often depicted as high overhead when in the middle of the night. This gave me false memories of having seen it, which is the element that makes this question interesting to me. Most other people also have false memories of it too, so I think it's a rare instance of getting to feel properly confused about something that, culturally, is supposed to be very simple, where we're at risk of feeling stupid because we're confused.
