I just started binging the show, and I'm at E6, and some things that made no sense to mew about the plot finally got too much. Some of the details of the plot seem to be unrealistic, but they serve a certain political agenda, and also do well for the core plot line.
The part where everyone acts like Kirkman has to legitimate himself, when the law is clear that he is the president is a little ridiculous. It could be said that they want him to legitimate himself or resign (but they act as if even that isn't necessary), but at that point his resignation would have led to a constitutional crisis, as there was no one else in the line of succession who was still alive.
Then we get to having all the governors over to this wonderful dinner in order to get them to appoint senators and schedule special elections for the house, and it's just crazy. This is at a minimum a couple of weeks later, when this should have been an immediate top priority for everyone. Kirkman clearly wanted a congress (for good reason), and the governors have a duty to appoint new senators and call special elections. They're so worried about Kirkman's leadership, yet they don't bother with recreating the one body that can be used as a counterweight to force him to do or not do things as they'd want. They refer to it as "your congress", which is just ridiculous on its face. It would also be expected that all it would take is a few governors to make appointments to the senate and set a date for house special elections, and all the other governors would get a move not wanting their states to lose representation - yet not one has done it, instead they're waiting for a push from the president, and for them all to make their minds up together whether they actually want it.
Maybe I'm missing something, because this seems a ridiculous story line. I know this is titled a question but reads more like a rant, but if there's anything to be said for this to make more sense, I'd love to read that.
