Living Room redesign - have some renders, would love some input!
Post Body

I've been in this apartment for a couple years now and am looking to overhaul it for a new look/feel. I used an online design service and they have provided their first set of renders - I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it and wanted to get this sub's thoughts and recommendations.

Details:

  • I mainly don't like the color of the wood furniture they picked - is there another complementary color to the floors? It might just be the 'rustic' finish, I really don't like the streaky look
  • I want to keep the couch and the recliner, that & the TV are pretty much the only furniture I actually own that's shown in the render. I like the navy/blue-ish colors
  • We have a lot of boardgames/books that create a kind of cluttered look - I want to get 'covered' storage options that can help minimize this clutter so I can leave a couple pieces out instead of having everything on display.
  • Need some more lighting - there's no overhead light so we currently use a lot of lamps but would love ideas on any alternatives/maybe some DIY options
  • There's built-in shelving underneath the window that I want to take advantage of, which is totally empty in the render. I think this is because of the two-person desk, but I kind of want to replace that with a one-person desk and move the other to the bedroom. Is it worth the effort just to make use of the built-in shelves?

The space is 12ftx18ft, let me know if any questions and thanks in advance!!
