Suggestions on how to optimize space

My laundry room (in the picture below) has some space beside the washer and dryer (not in the picture). The washer and dryer are stacked and on the right hand side corner of the room.
My house is small and has little closet space (no walk-in closets in any bedroom and no pantry).
I want to maximize the amount of space that I can build in the remaining space. Does anyone have suggestions of how to use this space in the most effective way.
