how early should I check in to camp on Thursday?

I saw some posts saying the campgrounds don’t always fill up and there’s a good chance you’ll be able to be closer to the fest as long as you check in at some point early in the day on Thursday. But I’ve also seen others say you need to get in line before check in even opens on Thursday to get a good spot. Would appreciate any insight from past goers! I was planning on getting there around 1-2pm Thursday but really want to get a spot close to festival grounds, so I’m wondering if I should leave earlier. TIA!
