So, this is going to be a bit of an odd ask. I run a small non-profit in Montgomery Alabama, that as one mission, is trying to get our city to grow and expand the number and strength of our sister city connections. Currently we only have one, a small town in Italy, Pietrasanta.
But our namesake, Richard Montgomery, was from Ireland. He was born in Swords in the outskirts of Dublin, but his family was from Ulster. So after initially reaching out to Swords, and not really getting any traction, we broadened our search to the whole island.
In our looking, it was brought to our attention that your city and ours had an interesting parallel. We are called the birthplace of civil rights, and yall are known as the birthplace of Irish civil rights. Sister City connections have been founded on far more tenuous connections.
I have tried contacting your government, but have been getting no response. Not even a form response (which is what I usually end up getting from most cities I contact). So, I thought I would try asking to see if anyone had a good contact that I could reach out to, to see if there was any interest in organizing something simple like a postcard exchange between our citizens.
Thanks!
